ISLAIS, AT THIRD STREET and Arthur Avenue, celebrates the Bayview. Artist Cliff Garten drew inspiration from Islais Creek’s landscape and the Bayview community’s long history.
The 20-foot blue bronze and stainless-steel sculpture references the estuary’s shape and watersheds and shines with LEDs at night.
Islais, located at the gateway to the Bayview neighborhood, is the most recent enhancement to public space along the Blue Greenway.
Port Commission President Kimberly Brandon describes the Bayview Gateway as “a long-envisioned improvement by and for the Bayview community that can be enjoyed by all San Francisco residents and visitors alike.”
Islais came about through a partnership between the Port and San Francisco Arts Commission (SFAC) with public feedback.
