Soka Gekai are Japanese secular Buddhists devoted to world peace. Soka University of America is an undergraduate town moving up the side of a hill. It is unique in that it is a full campus built out in a single phase. As one of the project designers, Cliff Garten was responsible for designing many of the courtyards and subspaces within the campus plan. The Academic Village is on the lower side and the Residential Village is on the upper side of the hill.
