The Auras are two sculptures that are part of the Public Art Master Plan for Landscape Sculpture at Moffett Place Corporate Campus in Sunnyvale, CA. Commissioned by Jay Paul Company the two sculptures flank the sides of Bordeaux St. and create a gateway on the main street while also defining the pedestrian crosswalk perpendicular to the street. Each sculpture is made up of two forms, one body within another body. Alluding to the “body” of consciousness and perception or the physical body as a container. The vertical ovoid shape residing within the outer form is fugitive, appearing only at optimal moments when backlit by intense sunlight or illuminated by the artist’s programmed light sequences. The forms are composed of hand bent stainless steel rods that radiate from a central point and build up their shape in expanding concentric layers. These lines form intense moiré patterns as the viewer moves around each artwork.
